One day Guided tour on the more technical terrain on Mount Washington or around the White Mountains.
  • Start time: 8am
  • Length: 8 Hours
  • Difficulty: Advanced Participants should be competent on Blacks and Double Blacks at the resort and have experience in steep terrain on a splitboard
  • Offered: End of December- Beginning of April
  • 8am check in
  • 8:30- 9am gear check 
  • 9am- 3/3:30pm Split tour in the presidentail range  
  • 3/3:30-4pm Wrap-up and de-issue rental gear

This course is for the competent splitboarder looking to progress into more technical terrain (steep, tight gullies). It is highly encoraged participants in this course have a base level of Avalanche training (AIARE lvl 1 or equivalent). Topics covered will include:

  1. Up hill efficiency (on the board and off)
  2. Basic mountaineering techniques
  3. Intro to Mountaineering equipment useful to Splitboarders
  4. Intro to snow and ice anchors
  5. Avalanche awareness and route planning

Head

  • Helmet
  • Winter hat (fit under helmet)
  • Goggles
  • Buff/necky

Upper Body

  • Base layer (long sleeve)
  • Wind shirt/Softshell (lightweight to tour in)
  • Midweight insulating layer
  • Hardshell jacket
  • “Puffy” jacket (large down or synthetic jacket)
  • Golves ( 3 pair, 1 thin for touring, 1 riding pair, 1 insulated or mitts)

Lower Body

  • Base layer bottom
  • Softshell pants
  • Hardshell pants
  • Snowboard boots
  • Ski socks
  • Clothing listed in recommended list
  • Backpack with waist strap (minimum 30L)
  • Water (2L, Thermoses are great)
  • Snacks for the day
  • Personal medical kit
  • Splitboard (package can be rented for those with out boards)
  • Ski/Trekking poles
  • Headlamp
  • Mountaineering axe (Semi-technical preferred (Petzl Sumtec/Gully, Grivel Light machine))
  • Crampons (Full strap on that will fit Snowboard boots)

General Policy

MLI Reserves the right to alter or change the itinerary based on a number of factors. These factors include but are not limited to weather, terrain, route conditions, participant skill level, etc. MLI Maintains complete discretion to change plans in order accommodate any of these factors for the safe operation of our trips. MLI will provide the best possible trip within the parameters of the factors in which we operate. 

MLI reserves the right to cancel any program due to weather, conditions or lackof signups. Minimum signups are as follows; 1:6 ratio courses minimum 3 people; all other courses minimum of 2 people are required for the curse to run.

MLI reserves the right to dismiss any participant at any time from a trip. MLI guides have full discretion to determine if a participants physical, psychological, or technical abilities are appropriate for our programs.

MLI will not tolerate ANY form of discrimination on our trips. Participants of all walks of life should and will feel accepted as a member of the team. If any participant is found to be discriminatory they will be dismissed indefinitely from all MLI programing.

 

Safety

Safety is MLI’s number one job. Hazards such as rockfall, icefall, avalanches, long sliding falls, high winds, etc. are inherent in the mountains. MLI’s guides draw from their experience and training to manage them; however they cannot eliminate them. Our guides make decisions to maximize safety without impeding on your experience; our guides  will be transparent in their decision making process and they have the final say in ALL decisions. 

 

 

Payment in full is required at the time of the booking. A refund less $40 will be given to any cancellation outside of 7 days. There will be no refund for cancellations within 7 days of the course. The nature of  our industry is time-sensitive and filling a spot can be difficult. 

Tips are not mandatory however they are customary and appreciated. Tipping at a 20% of the cost of the course is a good place to start.
